Paddling Tween Tour
River raft paddling adds an additional, more complex layer to outdoor adventure as the travel surface is moving underneath! Learning to effectively paddle in a river environment requires a higher sense of awareness and ability to problem solve, two key learning objectives of Find Your Path’s curriculum. River rafting also offers a unique and more remote wilderness experience away from roads and trails.
On our rafting excursion, we will meet in Salt Lake City on Sunday afternoon and then drive to Sand Wash, UT. We will meet our rafting guides - OARS, a leader in responsible travel and river safety - on Sunday night for orientation. Our journey will be the Green River's Desolation Canyon, 5 days and 4 nights of quintessential Utah white water.
Participants will develop skills in water and boating safety, stroke technique, river navigation, meal preparation and outdoor cooking, and Leave No Trace wilderness ethics. Desired outcomes are heightened awareness of self, others, and the physical and social environments around us, increased competence and confidence in one’s own abilities, problem solving and resilience, and the development of a connection to others and the world around them.
